This is one of the few sgraffito wedding vases we have seen by Camilio Sunflower Tafoya. The large wedding vase is his classic form with the sharp spouts.  The entire piece is fully polished.  It is etched around the body with a feathered avanyu (water Serpent).  On the spouts are cloud and lightning designs.  He would design and tech into the clay before firing. The wedding vase captures the creative history of his pottery from the carved pieces to the sgraffito work.  The piece is from 1975. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Camilio Sunflower Tafoya”.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a piece of history!
