Tafoya, Camilio – Red & Black Lidded Jar with Pueblo Figures (1973)

2"w x 6.5"h (w/ lid)

$ 1,200.00

This is one of the few lidded pieces we have had by Camilio Tafoya.  It is from 1973 and it was fired “black-and-red”.  It is a distinctive firing technique where areas the piece (here, the sides) are covered before the manure is put on to turn it black.  The jar has a mountain design around the neck.  On the sides are two medallion. One has a Pueblo man holding corn, and the other side has a mana figure holding corn.  The piece is highly fired and a striking coloration.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Camilio “Sunflower” Tafoya”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
