Tafoya, Camilio – Seedpot with Raccoons, Frog, and Coatimundi (1985)

This larger seedpot by Camilio Tafoya is from 1985. It is fully polished and fully designed.  Near the base is a frog in water.  Surrounding the rest of the piece are three raccoons around the edge of the water.  There is also single coatimundi, which is a ringtail long nose relative of raccoons which are found in the southwest.  On top of the seedpot is a bird with very intricately designed tail feathers.  It some of his better detail in the designs.  There are additional colors of white, green, and blue. The colors are all added from various clay slips.  Camilio was living with Joseph Lonewolf, his son, at the time he made this.  Joseph would give him the clay slips to use for the colors.  The piece is signed on the bottom “Camilio Sunflower Tafoya”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
