Tafoya, Camilio – Seedpot with Bears and Butterfly (1986)

1.25"w x 1.5"h

$ 500.00

This seedpot by Camilio Tafoya is from 1986. It is fully polished and fully designed. It is a very complex and well-executed design. The seeppot is fully polished and etched with two bears.  One bear is hanging on a branch, the other fell off the broken tree branch above it, and is crying.  The tree is highly polished and Camilio etched the broken branch into the clay.  Separating the two bears is a butterfly.  Note that the lighter matte red areas are where the polished red has been etched away.  The colors are all added from various clay slips.  Camilio was living with Joseph Lonewolf, his son, at the time he made this.  Joseph would give him the clay slips to use for the colors.  The piece is signed on the bottom “Camilio Sunflower”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
