Tafoya, Forrest – Bowl with Carved Sun and Avanyu (1990s)

3.75"w x 3"h

$ 175.00

Forrest Tafoya is a son of Lucy Yearflower Tafoya, a granddaughter of Camilio Tafoya and the brother of Shawn, Kelli Little Katchina and Myra Little Snow.  This bowl is from the 1990s when he began making pottery.  It is deeply carved with a water serpent and sun face design.  It is very highly polished and the background matte area is also incised with vertical lines (much like the work of his mother).  The use of the sun and the avanyu comes from the style of avanyu used by Camilio Tafoya (see last photo).  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay “Forrest Tafoya”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
