Harriet Tafoya is a sister of noted potter Annie Baca and was married to Elmer Red Starr.  She is known for her highly polished traditional black-on-black pottery.  This clay bear is highly polished and painted with a rain cloud design on the back.  It is fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Harriet”.
