Tafoya, Jennifer – “Avanyu” & Flowers Square Neck Square Jar

4"w x 3"h

$ 2,200.00

Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures!  This jar has a square shape and a square opening.  Note how the shape of the opening is in the opposite direction of square shape of the jar.  The top of the jar is etched with a water serpent (avanyu) encircling the piece.  This is one of those amazing pieces that combine both Pueblo and Asian styles.  The style of the water and the cherry blossoms have an Asian appearance.  As well the background area has been etched with subtle wave designs.  The bottom is fully polished and etched with cherry blossoms.  It is a striking combination of imagery.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  Definitely an exceptional piece of her pottery art.
