Tafoya, Jennifer – Four Koi Long Neck Jar
This wide shoulder jar by Jennifer Tafoya has an elongated neck. The jar is fully polished and fired black. It is fully etched on the top with four koi in water with cherry blossoms. Each of the Koi is in a different state of movement and each is a different color. Note the shaded background area. Jennifer says this is one of the most time-consuming aspects of her work, as it is a very light scraping away of the surface of the clay to reveal the light gray underneath. The result creates an additional visual depth to the jar. The bottom of the jar has additional cherry blossoms. It is a very colorful and playful jar! All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
