Tafoya, Jennifer – Jar with Pheasants and Turtle Lid

5"w x 3"h (w/ lid)

$ 3,000.00

Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures!  This jar is fully polished and designed on the top.  There are three large male pheasants and two female. The detail in the feathers on the birds is extraordinary!  It is amazing how she was able to capture such detailed realism.  The birds are surrounded by grass and shrubs.  Around the neck are cloud and wind designs in traditional Santa Clara style.  The inside of the neck is slipped with mica.  The bottom of the jar has four small dragonflies.  The jar has a lid that is textured to look like sand dunes.  In the center is a small turtle and the back is fully etched with a feather pattern!  Exceptional overall!   All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
