Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures.  This large seedpot is fully polished and designed on the top and sides.  The top has a large Lesser Goldfinch etched into the clay.  The detail on the feathers is exceptional, as is the coloration.   There is a subtleness to the colors and the way they match the feathers. The small blossoms are even more striking with their realism and the shading of the clays to create the colors.  Few artists could use the clay to paint with such a delicate touch!  Note how even the branches are realistically etched.  Surrounding the edge of the seedpot are traditional rain and cloud designs. The sides of the seedpot have small flowers etched into the clay.  The piece is very highly polished so there are areas of light reflection on the surface from my photography.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  I had a museum mount made for it so that it could be set on its side and show the design more easily.  The piece has a second place ribbon from the 2022 Gallup Ceremonials.
