Tafoya, Jennifer – “Wild Rose” & Avanyu Square Seed Jar

4"w x 2.5"h

$ 2,000.00

Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures!  This jar has a square shape and a short neck, but interestingly, the hole is on the bottom!  The jar is etched with Wild Roses on the top as the design.  Of course, the Tewa name for Santa Clara Pueblo is Kha-Po Owingeh, which translates as either “singing water” or “wild rose”.  Each of the flowers is tightly and realistically etched into the clay.  The bottom of the jar has a water serpent as the design.  Note her use of negative space to create the design of the avanyu.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  Definitely a creative piece of her pottery art.
