This is a large piece by Juan Tafoya from 1980. It has a central medallion which is sienna with an etched avanyu as the design. There is a single inset piece of turquoise in the center of the medallion.  There are additional etched designs to the side with a red clay slip. Around the neck of the piece are two bands of hei-shi beads, one turquoise and one shell.  The remainder of the bowl is highly polished.  The bowl won a blue ribbon in 1980 at the Navajo Nation Fair.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
