Kenneth Tafoya is a brother of noted potters Ray Tafoya and Paul Speckled Rock. He is also the uncle of Jennifer Tafoya.  Kenneth is known for his figurative pottery animals.  This is one of his classic bears.  It is from 1987.  The bear is made with Santa Clara clay and the slipped with mica.  It was fired black.  The bear has a red clay slip heartline and turquoise eyes.  The back of the bear has a medicine bundle with feathers and turquoise.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ken Tafoya”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
