Tafoya, Margaret, Alcario Tafoya & Mela Youngblood -Bowl with Lightning Design (1975)

6.75"w x 4.5"h

$ 7,700.00

This is one of the few triple signature pieces by Margaret Tafoya.  The bowl was made by Margaret Tafoya, designed and carved by her husband, Alcario Tafoya (Chief Foggy Bird) and polished by Mela Youngblood (their daughter).  There were only 8 pieces made which were signed by all three of these family members.  They were made between October and November 1975.  While Alcario often helped Margaret with the designs on her pottery, these are the only pieces during the entire career which include his name! This bowl is carved with a lightning pattern.  It is a classic bowl shape and highly polished.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Margaret Tafoya, Chief Foggy Bird, Mela Youngblood”.  The bowl is published in the book, “Born of Fire” on p. 107.  It is certainly a special piece in the history of the pottery of Margaret Tafoya.  The last photo is one of Alcario Tafoya holding an award-winning jar by his daughter Mary Ester Archuleta. Definitely a rarity and a piece of history!
