Melvin Tafoya is a son of Lee & Betty Tafoya and a grandson of Margaret Tafoya.  He is the brother of Phillis Tafoya-Bustos and Linda Tafoya-Sanchez and the father of Stephanie Tafoya.   This is one of his few pieces as he mostly made pottery in his teens.  The piece is a water jar with a turned out rim. The entire surface is fully polished, even the top of the rim.  The jar is fired a deep black.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Melvin Tafoya”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
