Tafoya, Ray – Large Jar with Double Avanyu and Pueblo Dancers (1980)

This is a larger jar by Ray Tafoya. It is an earlier piece of his pottery. The jar is etched on one side with a large scene in three interlocking medallions.  There are two avanyu (water serpents) and four Pueblo dancers wearing tablitas.  There is a sunface separating the two avanyu and below the sun is a kiva with a ladder. The remainder of the jar is fully polished.  It is a complex design etched into the clay.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay with his hallmark which is a White Mountain, which is name in Tewa..
