This is a classic miniature seedpot by Ray Tafoya.  The piece is fully polished and round in shape.  It has a Mimbres-style Big Horn Sheep on the top.  Below its feet is a stylized bird.  There are additional prayer feathers, clouds, and lightning designs.  All the different colors are derived from natural clay slips with three different colors of clay added to this piece.  The eye of the ram is also the hole for the seedpot!  Note how many of the designs surrounding the ram are similar to ones used today by his daughter, Jennifer Tafoya.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom with his hallmark that means “White Mountain” in Tewa.
