Tafoya, Ray – Seedpot with White Buffalo (1984)

1.5"w x 1.5"h

$ 375.00

This is an unusual seedpot by Ray Tafoya. The piece has a large white buffalo etched into the clay. The buffalo is polished a white-tan coloration.  It is very lightly etched for the fur and the head. The remainder of the seedpot is polished red and has buffalo tracks within a thunder design along with cloud designs.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is a creative piece for the size.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay with his hallmark mountain, meaning “White Moutain” which was his name in Tewa.  The piece is from 1984.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Today, his legacy continues with the pottery of his daughter, Jennifer Tafoya.
