This jar by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez is striking in design and polish.  The jar has a cloud pattern carved around the neck and a mountain design around the base.  They are fully polished areas.  Around the center of the jar is a water serpent (avanyu).  That is a traditional design and the style of her avanyu is very similar to that of her father, Lee Tafoya (note the square head on the avanyu).  Separating the avanyu from the cloud and mountain designs are matte areas of the clay.  They work to emphasize the highly polished surface of the avanyu.  The jar is fired a deep black.  It is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
