Tafoya-Sanchez, Linda – Large Oval Jar with 59 Feathers and 4 Avanyu
This is a stunning large oval jar by Linda Taofya-Sanchez. The jar is oval in shape. It is carved with 59 feathers extending up from the base. Around the shoulder are four avanyu encirclign the piece. They are a traditional design and the style of her avanyu is very similar to that of her father, Lee Tafoya (note the square head on the avanyu). The neck of the jar is fully polished. There are two carved bands that are slipped with mica. The contrast of the mica and the polsished surfaces helps accentuate both the shape and the vairous designs. The feathers and avanyu are highly polsihed and the jar is fired a deep black. It is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
