Tafoya-Sanchez, Linda – Potsuwi’i Incised Bowl

7.25"w x 4"h

$ 1,100.00

It is not often that Linda Tafoya-Sanchez creates redware pieces in the more classic San Juan style.  She learned to make this style from her aunt Mary Ester Archuleta, along with living at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo.  This bowl is very highly polished on the rim and the base. The center section is matte and deeply incised with rain and mountain designs. This style of incised design was revived in the 1930’s from the ancient Potsuwi’i pottery.  The lines here are very thin and angular. There is just a bit of mica on the surface.  The bowl was traditionally fired red.  Linda began using the mica years ago when she was given some by a relative at San Juan.   The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya Oyenque”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
