Tafoya, Shirley – Melon Bowl with 12 Ribs (1976)
Shirley Tafoya was the youngest daughter of Margaret Tafoya and known for her miniature pottery. This bowl is dated 1976. It is deeply carved with 12 melon ribs. They are fully polished and the piece was fired to a glassy black. Typical of her pottery, it is thin-walled, precision carved and elegant in form and design. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Shirley Cactus Blossom Tafoya”. A classic of Tafoya Family pottery!
