Vangie Tafoya is a granddaughter of Maria Sanchez Colaque and the mother of Helen Henderson and Brenda Tafoya.  She is known for her polished and incised pottery.  This large bowl is coil-built, Half of the piece is polished in sections of red, brown, and tan.  They are incised with feathers, hummingbirds, and clouds.  The remainder is carved with 31 melon ribs.  They are polished in sections of tan, brown, and mica.  There are SIX different colors of clay on the bowl.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Vangie Tafoya”.  The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
