3"w x 3"h

$ 150.00

Joe Talachy (b. 1943) and Thelma Talachy (b. 1942) are two of the few potters from Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico.  Thelma is a sister of Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and Gloria Garcia.  Their daughter, Melissa Talachy, is also a well-known potter.  Each piece is coil-built and painted with natural clay slips.  This small water jar has a high shoulder and a short neck.  It is painted with a series of cloud, rain, and plant designs.  There are four different colors of clay used on this jar, making it a true polychrome (more than three colors).  The jar is tightly painted and traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joe & Thelma Talachy”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
