$ 425.00

Joe Talachy (b. 1943) and Thelma Talachy (b. 1942) are two of the few potters from Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico.  Thelma is a sister of Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and Gloria Garcia.  Their daughter, Melissa Talachy, is also a well-known potter.  Each piece is coil-built and painted with natural clay slips.  This in a long neck water jar with a slightly turned-out rim. The jar is slipped with white clay. Around the shoulder are tightly painted rain and cloud patterns using black and brown clays.  Interestingly, much of the design is created using the white negative space.  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joe & Thelma Talachy”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
