Tapia-Browning, Michelle – Red Plate with Kiva Step Pattern (1988)

9" diameter

$ 675.00

Michelle Tapia-Browning is a daughter of noted potter LuAnn Tafoya and a sister of Daryl Whitegeese. While she is better known for her photography and woodworking, she is also a gifted potter.  This plate is coil built, stone polished, incised, and traditionally fired red.  The plate is fully polished on the front and back.  It is etched with an interlocking kiva step pattern.  While Michelle makes very few pieces of pottery, her work is classic and beautifully polished.  It is signed on the back in the clay, “Michelle Y. Tapia”.  It has a 2nd place ribbon from Santa Fe Indian Market in 1988 and one of the judges was Dextra Quotskuyva.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
