Tenorio, Robert – Bowl with Pueblo Birds and Feathers

6.25"w x 5.5"h

$ 375.00

This is a classic polychrome bowl by Robert Tenorio.  The bowl s painted with wild spinach (black) and red and copper-colored clay slips.   The bowl is round in shape and has a section with two large birds. The remainder of the jar is painted with a feather pattern. The tops of the feathers are slipped with red and copper-colored clay slips.  The interior of the bowl is slipped red and there is one of his classic impressed handprints.  Note as well that the jar has a “spirit line” or a break in the painted line around the rim.  This goes back to historic Kewa pottery when the artist would use the spirit line to release their spirit or connection from the vessel.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
