This is a large wide shoulder jar by Robert Tenorio.  The jar is painted with wild spinach (black), red clay, and orange micaceous clay.  The outside of the jar has a cloud pattern around the rim and below the shoulder.  Around the center is a diamond-shaped star pattern. This style is a very traditional Kewa type of design.  The inside of the jar is painted with five fish and a turtle in the center.  The turtle has an impressed hand design in the clay. The fish are painted with wild spinach (black) and then highlighted with two different colors of clay.  For Robert, it is the surprise of looking inside the piece and seeing unexpected designs.  The jar is from 2004.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
