Dorothy Torivio was among the first to utilize and then refine the “op-art” style in her Acoma pottery. She took classic Acoma patterns and then repeated them on a vessel, ranging the size from small to large and then small again, in accordance with the shape of the vessel. This a stunning larger piece of her pottery with her classic elongated neck and the wide shoulder. The form works perfectly to accent the changing scale of the design. The triangular pattern is a mountain or “sawtooth” design. It is one of her more visually dynamic patterns. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom.
