Torivio, Frances – Jar with Parrots (1960s)

4.25"w x 4"h

$ 200.00

Frances Pino Torivio was known as one of the revivalist Acoma potters in the 1970s.  As one of the Matriarchs of the pueblo, she was influential in teaching other potters at that time. This is a classic Acoma jar with two parrots as the design.  Notice anything unusual about the birds? They are patined with no outline.  It creates a more open and flowing appearance.  Separating them are fine-line rainclouds.  The jar was traditionally fired with very light blushes to the surface. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Mrs. F. Torivio” on the bottom.
