6.5"w x 10"h

$ 650.00

Persignula Tosa (1923-1996) was a daughter of Lupe Romero and the mother Pauline Romero and mother-in-law of Christine Tosa.  She taught both of them to make pottery.  Persingula was well known for her figurative pottery and began signing in the 1940s. This is one of her larger storytellers from the 1960s. The figure is made with native clay and painted with poster or acrylic paints, which was common then.  There are 19 children on the figure.  Note the painting of the squash blossom necklace, the clothes on the children, and even the “lace” on her skirt!  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Persingula Tosa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
