Toya, Maxine & Dominique – Polychrome Jar with Quail, Dragonfly & Corn Maiden

7"w x 6.5"h

$ 1,950.00

This is a striking new jar by Maxine Toya and her daughter, Dominque Toya. Dominque made the jar and Maxine painted the designs. The jar is a classic water jar shape. The neck and base are both slipped with mica.  The body of the jar is fully painted with six colors of clay to create the designs!  There are three larger scenes and they are connected by three sections with flowers.  The larger sections have a corn maiden, dragonfly, and quail.  There is a rainbow over each of the sections.  The sections with the flowers also have a rainbow over the top fo them.  The complexity of the painting and the use of so many colors of clay is amazing on this jar. It is certainly an elegant piece by these two exceptional potters.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Maxine Toya + Dominque Toya”.
