Tso, Jared – Black Asymmetric Rim Bowl with Swirl Polished Interior

6.75"w x 3.5"h

$ 975.00

This is thin-walled open asymmetric bowl by Jared Tso. He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired.  The bowl is asymmetric in shape with an indented rim. The form is inspired by the classic serving bowl with an indented rim where you would hold the bowl.  The exterior is matte in texture.  The interior is polished at a swirl. The contrast of the polished interior with the matte exterior is visually striking. It also creates two textures for the piece.  The bowl was reduction fired to turn it black.  There are subtle color contrasts from the firing. It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, create something so dynamic.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modern manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
