Tso, Jared – “Navajo Night Skies” Pinon Pitch Plate

11.5" diameter

$ 900.00

This is a thin-walled plate by Jared Tso. The plate is coil-built and thin-walled.  What is unusual is that the rim of the plate extends backward to give the piece actual sides!  The plate was stone polished and then traditionally fired. The outdoor firing is always unknown until it comes out of the firing.  The fire clouds on this plate are almost like a painting, giving it the name of “Navajo Night Skies”. The top of the plate was covered in pinon-pitch after firing, but not the edge, giving it two different textures.  Quite stunning in person!  It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, create something so dynamic.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modern manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
