Tso, Jared – Open Bowl with Swirl Polish

10"w x 3.75"h

$ 975.00

We are happy to introduce the clay work of Jared Tso and be one of the first galleries to represent his pottery.  He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso, and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil built, traditionally fired and covered in pinon pitch after the firing.  This is a large open bowl, which has a raised design on the exterior rim.  The raised band is incised with a linear design. The dynamic part of this bowl is the polishing.  The interior is fully polished in a swirl pattern.  This is visually striking as the polishing marks create the swirl and they are intensified by the coloration from the fire clouds. The exterior is also fully polished in a swirl pattern.  The variation of colors from black to brown is a result of the firing.    The browner areas are where it was fired to a higher temperature.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modernistic manner.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jared Tso”.  It also has an honorable mention from the 2019 Santa Fe Indian Market.
