This is thin-walled classic open bowl by Jared Tso.  The bowl is made from Native clay and has a classic round, open shape. The interior is polished at a swirl from the rim to the center.  The exterior is has a double band “rope” design.  This double band is applique and designed to look like a rope encircling the bowl.  The piece was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  It was then covered in pinon-pitch after the firing in a traditional Navajo manner.   It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, create something so dynamic.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modern manner.  The bowl is signed, “Jared Tso”.
