Vallo, Leland – Corrugated Neck Jar with Deer Medallion and Tularosa Swirls (1990s)

6"w x 5"h

$ 250.00

Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This jar is coil built, thin-walled, and intricately painted.  The jar has a corrugated rim, where the clay is indented. Leland made few pieces with a corrugated rim and, much like his other pottery, the corrugation is small, tight, and precise. The jar is painted with one Mimbres deer medallion. It is surrounded by tightly painted rain, cloud, and feather designs.  Below the shoulder is a classic Tularosa Swirl design in black-and-white.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “L.  Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
