Vallo, Leland – Fluted Rim Jar with Lizard (1990s)

4"w x 4.5"h

$ 150.00

Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This jar is coil built, thin-walled, and intricately painted.  The jar has a fluted rim that is slipped with red clay.  There is a single medallion with a Mimbres lizard on one side.  The remainder of the piece is very tightly painted with rain and bird wing patterns.  The entire jar is very fully designed!  Below the shoulder is a classic Tularosa Swirl design in black-and-white.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “L.  Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
