Vallo, Leland – Jar with Mimbres Lizards (1990s)
Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This jar is coil built, thin-walled, and intricately painted. The jar has four Mimbres lizard medallions. The remainder is fully painted with feather, rain, and lighting designs. Below the shoulder is a classic Tularosa Swirl design in black-and-white. The jar is signed on the bottom, “L. Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
