Vallo, Leland – Jar with Rain and Cloud Designs (1990s)
Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This jar is coil built and painted with red clay and bee-weed. The entire piece is fully painted with very intricate designs. There are rain, cloud and lightning patterns across the surface. There is a striking contrast between thin lines and more bold black areas. The jar is signed on the bottom, “L. Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
