Vallo, Leland – Seedpot with Mimbres Deer (1990s)
Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This seedpot is coil-built, thin-walled, and intricately painted. The seedpot has a Mimbres-inspired deer on the top. It is surrounded by plant, rain, and cloud designs. Below the shoulder is a classic Tularosa Swirl design in black-and-white. The jar is signed on the bottom, “L. Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
