Vallo, Leland – Water Jar with Mimbres Lizards (1990s)
Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This jar is coil-built, thin-walled, and intricately painted. The jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck. Around the neck are plant, rain, and cloud designs. Below the shoulder are three Mimbres-inspired lizards. The jar is signed on the bottom, “L. Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
