Vallo, Leland – Water Jar with Pueblo Deer Design (1990s)

Leland Vallo was a son of noted potter, Marie Vallo, and the brother of Kim Vallo. He learned to make pottery from his mother and began making pottery in 1991. This is water jar is coil-built water jar with a round shoulder and an elongated neck  The entire piece is fully painted. There is one medallion with a pueblo style deer.  The neck has feather, wave, rain, and cloud designs.  Similar designs are painted around the body of the jar.  Below the shoulder is a classic Tularosa Swirl design in black-and-white.  The neck is painted with red clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “L.  Vallo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
