Vigil, Minnie – Five Color Polychrome Jar with Feather Pattern (1980’s)
Minnie Vigil is renowned for her polychrome and highly polished pottery. This jar is fully polished red below the shoulder. Along the neck of the jar, it is matte red. The feathers are painted black with alternating gray and red matte vents near the rim. Below the shoulder is a cloud pattern. It is a striking coloration with five different clay colors used on the jar! There are 24 feathers encircling the bowl. Below the shoulder, there is a cloud and rain design. The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Minnie”. She is a sister to potters Gloria Garcia (Goldenrod), Lois Guiterrez and Thelma Talachy and an aunt to Jason Garcia and Juan de la Cruz.
