Virginia Romero – Large Micaceous Bowl with Shoulder “Circles” (1970’s)

9.75"w x 4"h

$ 400.00

This is a traditional large open bowl by Virginia Romero. She is one of the great names in keeping micaceous pottery alive at Taos Pueblo.  This bowl is made from micaceous clay.  It has a rounded base, a wide shoulder, and a slightly turned-in rim. The shoulder is impressed with “dots”, or small circles, around the entire piece.  I have had several of her pieces in the gallery with designs impressed in the clay and it is certainly one of her stylistic signatures.  The bowl was traditionally fired which created the colorations on the surface.  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Virginia T. Romero”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
