10"w x 14.25"h

$ 6,000.00

This is an impressive large long-neck jar by Daryl Whitegeese.  Daryl said this was the first time he had attempted this classic shape with a long neck.  It is a form that was often made by his grandmother, Margaret Tafoya. The jar has a round body and an elongated neck. The body of the jar is fully carved.  Daryl says of the design, “It tells a story. There are clouds blowing in over the mountains.  The wind begins to blow and the rain starts to fall on the mesas. It starts to rain, but then the sun comes out!”.  The design starts with a swirling cloud design and ends with the small carved circular “sun”.  While the design is creative, the polishing on the neck and base is what is so striking!  it is a lot of polished surface on a piece this big.  The jar was traditionally fired to a glassy black.  The size, shape, and design all work perfectly on this piece. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Daryl Whitegeese”.  Daryl has won numerous awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and other events.  He remains one of the exciting traditional potters working today!
