Williams, Lorraine – 18″ Tall “Sky Reaching Rock” Water Jar

13"w x 18"h

$ 2,200.00

WOW!  This is an amazing large jar by Lorraine Williams.  The jar is coil built and the designs are etched into the clay before it is fired. The piece is entitled on the bottom, “Sky Reaching Rock, Male Shooting Way”.  The jar has designs inspired by traditional Navajo sandpaintings. There are male Yei figures with the four sacred frogs.  Separating them are large stalks of corn. There is a cloud design around the base of the neck.  The bottom of the jar is slipped red. The jar has great coloration from the firing!  After the piece is fired it is covered in pinon pitch, which is typical of all traditional Navajo pottery harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.
