Williams, Lorraine – Long Neck Jar with Stars and River

8"w x 10.25"h

$ 450.00

This is a traditional jar by Lorraine Williams.  It has an elongated square-shaped neck.  The jar is incised with designs before being fired.  There are stars as the design on the neck.  Below are the canyons and then the river.  The base has a rug pattern which extends to the bottom of the jar.  The background area is textured which further highlights the designs.  It is a striking and complicated pattern.  The jar has been traditionally fired to create the surface coloration.   After the piece is fired it is covered in pine pitch, which is typical of all traditional Navajo pottery harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.
