Williams, Lorraine – Tan and Red Incised Long Neck Jar

7.5"w x 11"h

$ 500.00

This is a striking traditional jar by Lorraine Williams.  It is a long neck and a low shoulder.  The area below the shoulder is polished red. The shoulder and neck are tan and there is an incised mountain design around the shoulder of the jar.  The simplicity of color and complexity of the designs are striking on this piece.  The jar has been traditionally fired to create the surface coloration.   After the piece is fired it is covered in pine pitch, which is typical of all traditional Navajo pottery harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW”.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.
