Youngblood, Christopher – Eagle & Avanyu Bowl

4"w x 4"h

$ 2,600.00

This bowl by Christopher Youngblood combines modern and ancient imagery. The bowl has an avanyu on one side. It is deeply carved and has a striking variety of design as the piece is turned.  The imagery then evolves into an eagle, which is also deeply cut into the clay. The wings of the bird are rounded like the melon ribs. It is beautifully carved and the matte areas are perfect in contrast to the highly polished areas.  Note as well the base of the bowl is indented, which is reminiscent of the classic Santa Clara vessels.  Chris pays amazing attention to the small details in his work and combines a strong technique with creative designs.  He remains one of the young potters to watch, especially after his 2014 “Best of Pottery” award at Santa Fe Indian Market!
